The Essex Chronicle is a weekly tabloid sold throughout central Essex that is in the towns of Braintree, Witham, Maldon, South Woodham Ferrers and especially Chelmsford where its offices are located.
This newspaper was founded in 1764 as The Chelmsford and Colchester Chronicle, or, Universal Weekly Advertiser. It was renamed twice again before resolving on its current title in 1920. It has a strong online presence via Facebook and its own webpage. The print version is published every Thursday. Its current circulation is around 26,000.
It was first published by the Essex Chronicle Media Group but is currently owned by Local World media group.
